Welcome to the Landheim/Seedlings Field Trip August 6, 2002
Landheim Training Center came to Seedling's Learning Center on Tuesday August 6th, 2002 for a special field trip. Officer Keith Stevens and K9 partner "Enzo and Officer Charles Sprague and K9 partner "Udo" started the field trip with some helpful "kid friendly" words from their Police Department in Crown Point, Indiana.
Officer Sprague and K9 "Udo" successfully search the boxes and locate the hidden narcotics. The kids of Seedlings clap and cheer K9 "Udo" on as he wags his tail with delight.
Bob Fleming from Landheim rewards K9 "Enzo" for locating the narcotics as Officer Stevens encourages him.
K9 "Enzo" takes a moment to ponder a question from the kids of Seedlings ... "is it okay to touch a police dog?" Officer Stevens replied "always ask the police officer first if you can touch their dog".
Bob Fleming followed up with Stevens answer and stated "you should always ask an adult if it's okay to touch an animal that does not belong to you".
Officer Stevens and Officer Sprague talk with the three year old class room and review some ideas such as "always find a police officer if you need help" and "don't talk with strangers". This was the first introduction for many of the three year olds to police dogs.
Shirley Tipsford and "Dak", a 9 1/2 year old Agility Champion, are shown here at the agility course. "Dak" eagerly and playfully jumps through the tire jump. The kids at Seedlings chanted "Go Dak, Go Dak, Go Dak" as they clapped their hands. Agility is a fun and exciting sport and a wonderful way to continue working with you dog. Agility is a constructive outlet for your dogs energy!
Shirley directs "Dak" on to the next step in the agility course called the "A Frame". Dak shows great speed as he easily maneuvers through the course.
Officer Sprague and Officer Stevens hand out Police trading cards that picture them and their K9 partner. Each child was able to talk with the officers and meet and pet their K9 partners.
Everyone thanked Landheim Training Center and the Crown Point P.D. Officers for a wonderful field trip.
