Welcome to the Landheim/Seedlings Field Trip on July 26, 2001.
Bob Fleming - Landheim Training Director Thomas Kroll - Landheim Instructor Officer Stevens, with the Crown Point, Indiana Police Department, explains the job "Enzo" has in helping him on the streets while they work. Enzo was trained at Landheim for two months and was then placed with Officer Stevens. The two then trained at Landheim under the Law Enforcement K9 Training Program. Officer Stevens and "Enzo" have been working together as a Police K9 team since November of 2000.
Bob Fleming talks with the students of Seedlings.
Bob Fleming describes the way a police dog uses his nose to search for drugs while he is working. German Shepherds have more olfactory cells (cells that give us our sense of smell) than humans. German Shepherd dogs have approximately 250 million olfactory cells compared to humans who have approximately 5 million olfactory cells.
Officer Stevens and "Enzo" say Hi to the students of Seedling.
"Enzo" is very friendly as he greets the students of Seedlings. "Enzo" knows the difference between work and play time.
Did you know? Dogs trained to search for drugs can find substances hidden in the oddest places. Even when drugs are submerged in the gasoline of a car's fuel tank, dogs will find them and notify their handler of the narcotics.
Enzo demonstrates his grip Police K9's are trained to apprehend uncooperative suspects. "Enzo" is shown executing his grip under the careful instruction of Officer Stevens.
"Dak" on Landheim's Agility Course "Dak", a 9 1/2 year old Agility Champion, is shown here playfully jumping over the bars. Agility is a fun and exciting sport and a wonderful way to continue working with you dog. Agility is a constructive outlet for your dogs energy!
"Dak" demonstrates the Agility "A" frame Shirley Tipsword, Landheim Trainer, and her dog "Dak" negotiate obstacles in the Agility course. Working this course requires a keen sense of balance, discipline and training. The kids of Seedlings watched as "Dak" expertly maneuvered through Landheim's course.
